If the camshaft drive chain tensioner fails

I have got now for the second time the same phenomenon. The chain tensioner lost the automatic tensioning efficacy and fails.

The eye of the tensioning spring is pulled out, with the result of a totally motor failure.

Everybody who dismounts his engine should pay attention on hinds of abrasion around the spring of the chain tensioner.

Symptoms :

First a light noise (`tickern`) ( also exchangeable with the valve play ) .This noise increases and ends  in a vehement `hacking`, which you can feel.

This development can last  about 10.000km. Attention!! Waiting till the end  results in capital motor damages.

Consequences:

First the spring, which is responsible for the tensioning function of the tensioner, pulls out.
The tensioner totally looses the tensioning efficacy ,the chain can flash over and the valve timing will be out of adjustment.

Everybody can imagine what happens next. --> very expensive

Corrective measures :
Only the use of new parts will solve the problem. Chain tensioner, camshaft drive chain and also probably the camshaft must be replaced.

Spring eyelet ( arrow ) is  worn out.

Take care, that the spacer is mounted in the correct way:
